Musa bin Isma'il narrated to us, he said Abu Awanah narrated to us, he said Abd al-Malik narrated to us, from Warrad — the scribe of al-Mughirah — from Hadrat al-Mughirah (bin Shu'bah) (may Allah be well pleased with him) who said: Hadrat Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: "If I were to see a man with my wife, I would strike him with the sharp edge of the sword, not its flat side." This reached the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and he declared: "Are you astonished at the jealous honour of Sa'd? By Allah, I have more jealous honour than him, and Allah has more jealous honour than me. It is because of the jealous honour of Allah that He has forbidden indecencies, both apparent and hidden. And there is none who loves to accept excuses more than Allah, and that is why He sent bearers of glad tidings and warners (Prophets). And there is none who loves praise more than Allah, and that is why Allah has promised Paradise." Ubaydullah bin Amr narrated from Abd al-Malik: "There is no being more possessing of jealous honour than Allah."

ہم سے موسیٰ بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے حضرت ابوعوانہ نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے عبدالملک نے بیان کیا، ان سے ورّاد نے جو مغیرہ کے کاتب تھے، اور ان سے حضرت مغیرہ (بن شعبہ) رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے بیان کیا: حضرت سعد بن عبادہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا: اگر میں کسی مرد کو اپنی بیوی کے ساتھ دیکھوں تو اسے تلوار کی دھار سے مارتا نہ کہ چپٹی سے۔ یہ بات رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم تک پہنچی تو آپ نے ارشاد فرمایا: "کیا تم سعد کی غیرت پر تعجب کرتے ہو؟ اللہ کی قسم! میں اس سے بھی زیادہ غیرت مند ہوں، اور اللہ مجھ سے بھی زیادہ غیرت مند ہے۔ اور اللہ کی غیرت کی وجہ سے اس نے بے حیائیوں کو حرام قرار دیا، ظاہری ہوں یا باطنی۔ اور کوئی نہیں جسے عذر پسند ہو اللہ سے زیادہ، اسی لیے اس نے بشارت دینے والے اور ڈرانے والے (نبی) بھیجے۔ اور کوئی نہیں جسے تعریف پسند ہو اللہ سے زیادہ، اسی لیے اللہ نے جنت کا وعدہ فرمایا۔" عبیداللہ بن عمرو نے عبدالملک سے یہ الفاظ روایت کیے ہیں: "کوئی ذات اللہ سے زیادہ غیرت مند نہیں۔"
