Arabic (Original)
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى، قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، مَا الْقِتَالُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّ أَحَدَنَا يُقَاتِلُ غَضَبًا، وَيُقَاتِلُ حَمِيَّةً. فَرَفَعَ إِلَيْهِ رَأْسَهُ ـ قَالَ وَمَا رَفَعَ إِلَيْهِ رَأْسَهُ إِلاَّ أَنَّهُ كَانَ قَائِمًا ـ فَقَالَ " مَنْ قَاتَلَ لِتَكُونَ كَلِمَةُ اللَّهِ هِيَ الْعُلْيَا فَهُوَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ".
English Translation
Hadrat Abu Musa (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrates that a man came to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and submitted: O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), what constitutes fighting in the path of Allah? For some of us fight out of anger and some fight out of zealous pride. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) raised his blessed head towards him — and he raised his head only because the questioner was standing — and declared: Whoever fights so that the Word of Allah is supreme, then he is fighting in the path of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic.
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابو موسیٰ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ ایک شخص نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمتِ اقدس میں حاضر ہوا اور عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! اللہ کی راہ میں جہاد کیا ہے؟ کیونکہ ہم میں سے کوئی غصے سے لڑتا ہے اور کوئی غیرت سے لڑتا ہے۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اس کی طرف سرِ مبارک اٹھایا — اور سر اس لیے اٹھایا کہ پوچھنے والا کھڑا تھا — پھر ارشاد فرمایا: جو شخص اس لیے لڑے کہ اللہ کا کلمہ بلند ہو تو وہ اللہ عزوجل کی راہ میں ہے۔
