Narrated to us by Yahya bin Bukair, narrated to us by Laith, from Uqail, from Ibn Shihab, from Urwah, that Marwan bin al-Hakam and Hadrat Miswar bin Makhramah (may Allah be well pleased with them both) informed him that the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated when the delegation of Hawazin came as Muslims and asked him to return their wealth and captives to them. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared to them, 'With me are those whom you see, and the most beloved speech to me is the truthful one. So choose one of two things: either the captives or the wealth. And I had been waiting for you.' The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) had waited for them over ten nights after returning from Ta'if. When it became clear to them that the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) would only return one of the two, they said, 'We choose our captives.' He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) then stood among the Muslims, praised Allah Almighty as He deserves, then declared, 'After praising Allah and sending salutations, these brothers of yours have come repentant, and I see it fit to return their captives to them. Whoever among you wishes to do so willingly, let him do so, and whoever wishes to retain his share until we give him from the first war booty that Allah Almighty grants us, let him do so.' The people submitted, 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! We have willingly given up for them.' He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared, 'We do not know who among you has permitted it and who has not, so go back and let your chiefs report your decision to us.' The people went back and their chiefs spoke to them, then they returned to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and informed him that they had all willingly permitted and consented. This is what has reached us regarding the captives of Hawazin. This is the final statement of al-Zuhri, meaning this is what reached us.

ہم سے یحییٰ بن بکیر نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے لیث نے بیان کیا، عقیل سے، ابن شہاب سے، عروہ سے، مروان بن حکم اور حضرت مسور بن مخرمہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے انہیں خبر دی کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اس وقت فرمایا جب ہوازن کا وفد مسلمان ہو کر آیا اور ان سے درخواست کی کہ ان کے مال اور قیدی واپس کر دیں۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ان سے ارشاد فرمایا: میرے ساتھ جو لوگ ہیں وہ تم دیکھتے ہو، اور سب سے محبوب بات مجھے سچی بات ہے، تم دونوں میں سے ایک چیز کا انتخاب کرو، یا تو قیدی یا مال، اور میں تمہارے آنے کا انتظار کر رہا تھا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے طائف سے واپسی کے بعد دس سے کچھ زیادہ راتیں ان کا انتظار فرمایا تھا۔ جب ان پر واضح ہو گیا کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم دونوں میں سے صرف ایک ہی واپس کریں گے تو عرض کیا: ہم اپنے قیدیوں کا انتخاب کرتے ہیں۔ پھر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم مسلمانوں میں کھڑے ہوئے اور اللہ تعالیٰ کی شایان شان حمد و ثنا بیان فرمائی، پھر ارشاد فرمایا: حمد و صلوٰۃ کے بعد! تمہارے یہ بھائی توبہ کر کے آئے ہیں اور میں مناسب سمجھتا ہوں کہ ان کے قیدی واپس کر دوں۔ تم میں سے جو خوشی سے ایسا کرنا چاہے وہ کرے، اور جو اپنے حصے پر قائم رہنا چاہے یہاں تک کہ ہم اسے اللہ تعالیٰ کی طرف سے آنے والے پہلے مال فے سے دے دیں، وہ بھی ایسا کرے۔ لوگوں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! ہم نے ان کے لیے خوشی سے چھوڑ دیا۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ہمیں معلوم نہیں کہ تم میں سے کس نے اجازت دی اور کس نے نہیں، لہٰذا واپس جاؤ، تمہارے سردار ہمیں تمہارا فیصلہ بتائیں۔ چنانچہ لوگ واپس گئے اور ان کے سرداروں نے ان سے بات کی، پھر نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس آئے اور بتایا کہ سب نے خوشی سے اجازت دے دی ہے۔ یہ وہ بات ہے جو ہمیں ہوازن کے قیدیوں کے بارے میں پہنچی ہے۔ یہ زہری کی آخری بات ہے، یعنی یہ ہمیں پہنچی ہے۔
