Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "There were three men among the Children of Israel: a leper, a bald man, and a blind man. Allah wanted to test them, so He sent an angel to them. The angel came to the leper and asked: 'What do you desire most?' He said: 'Good skin and a good complexion, for people find me repulsive.' The angel touched him and his disease was removed, and he was given good skin and a good complexion. Then the angel asked: 'What wealth do you desire most?' He said: 'Camels.' So he was given a pregnant she-camel and the angel said: 'May Allah bless you in it.' Then the angel went to the bald man and asked: 'What do you desire most?' He said: 'Good hair, for people find me repulsive.' The angel touched him and his baldness was removed, and he was given good hair. The angel asked: 'What wealth do you desire most?' He said: 'Cattle.' So he was given a pregnant cow and the angel said: 'May Allah bless you in it.' Then the angel went to the blind man and asked: 'What do you desire most?' He said: 'That Allah restore my sight.' The angel touched his eyes and Allah restored his sight. The angel asked: 'What wealth do you desire most?' He said: 'Sheep.' So he was given a pregnant ewe. Both the she-camel and the cow gave birth and the ewes lambed, until the first man had a valley full of camels, the second had a valley full of cattle, and the third had a valley full of sheep. Then the angel came to the leper in his original form and said: 'I am a poor man whose means of livelihood have been cut off, and I have no recourse today except through Allah and then through you. I ask you by the One who gave you good skin, good complexion, and wealth for a camel to ride on my journey.' He said: 'I have many obligations.' The angel said: 'I think I know you. Were you not a leper whom people found repulsive, and poor, and then Allah gave you wealth?' He said: 'I inherited this wealth from generation to generation.' The angel said: 'If you are lying, may Allah return you to your former state.' Then the angel came to the bald man in his original form and said the same. He also denied it, and the angel said: 'If you are lying, may Allah return you to your former state.' Then the angel came to the blind man in his original form and said: 'I am a poor man and a traveler. My means have been cut off and I have no recourse today except through Allah and then through you. I ask you by the One who restored your sight for a sheep to help me on my journey.' He said: 'I was blind and Allah restored my sight. Take whatever you wish and leave whatever you wish. By Allah, I will not restrict you from taking anything today for the sake of Allah.' The angel said: 'Keep your wealth. You were only being tested. Allah is pleased with you and displeased with your two companions.'"
