Abdullah bin Maslamah al-Qa'nabi narrated to us, from Imam Malik (upon him be mercy), from Hisham bin Urwah, from Hadrat Fatimah bint al-Mundhir, from Hadrat Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be well pleased with them both), who said: I came to Umm al-Mu'minin Hadrat A'ishah (may Allah be well pleased with her) when a solar eclipse had occurred. The people were standing in prayer, and she too was standing in prayer. I asked, "What has happened to the people?" She pointed with her hand towards the sky and said "Subhan Allah." I asked, "Is it a sign?" She nodded with her blessed head indicating yes. When the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) finished the prayer, he glorified and praised Allah the Exalted, then declared: "There is nothing that I had not been shown except that I have seen it from this very place of mine, even Paradise and Hell. And it has been revealed to me that you shall be tested in your graves, a trial close to the trial of the Dajjal. As for the believer or Muslim (Asma', may Allah be well pleased with her, was unsure which of the two words was used), he shall say (in response to the angels' questions in the grave): 'Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) came to us with clear signs, and we accepted his call and believed.' It shall be said to him: 'Rest in peace; we knew you were a person of certainty.' As for the hypocrite or the doubter (Asma', may Allah be well pleased with her, was unsure which word was used), he shall say: 'I do not know; I heard the people saying something and I repeated the same.'"

ہم سے عبداللہ بن مسلمہ قعنبی نے بیان کیا، ان سے امام مالک رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے ہشام بن عروہ نے، ان سے فاطمہ بنت منذر نے اور ان سے حضرت اسماء بنت ابی بکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ میں حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا کے یہاں حاضر ہوئی جب سورج گرہن ہوا تھا۔ لوگ کھڑے نماز پڑھ رہے تھے اور حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا بھی کھڑی نماز پڑھ رہی تھیں۔ میں نے پوچھا: لوگوں کو کیا ہوا ہے؟ تو انہوں نے ہاتھ سے آسمان کی طرف اشارہ فرمایا اور سبحان اللہ کہا۔ میں نے پوچھا: کوئی نشانی ہے؟ انہوں نے سر مبارک سے ہاں کا اشارہ فرمایا۔ پھر جب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نماز سے فارغ ہوئے تو اللہ تعالیٰ کی حمد و ثنا بیان فرمائی، پھر ارشاد فرمایا: "کوئی چیز ایسی نہیں جو مجھے دکھائی نہیں گئی ہو بلکہ اپنی اس جگہ سے میں نے سب دیکھ لیا، حتیٰ کہ جنت اور دوزخ بھی۔ اور مجھ پر وحی کی گئی ہے کہ تم لوگ قبروں میں آزمائے جاؤ گے، قریب قریب دجال کے فتنے کے۔ پس مومن یا مسلم (اسماء رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا کو یقین نہیں تھا کہ ان دونوں میں سے کون سا لفظ تھا) تو وہ (قبر میں فرشتوں کے سوال پر) کہے گا: محمد صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ہمارے پاس روشن نشانیاں لے کر تشریف لائے تو ہم نے دعوت قبول کی اور ایمان لائے۔ اس سے کہا جائے گا: چین سے آرام فرما، ہمیں معلوم تھا کہ تو صاحب یقین ہے۔ اور منافق یا شک میں مبتلا (اسماء رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا کو یقین نہیں تھا کہ ان دونوں میں سے کون سا لفظ تھا) تو وہ کہے گا: مجھے نہیں معلوم، میں نے لوگوں کو جو کہتے سنا وہی میں نے بھی کہہ دیا۔"
