Hadrat Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) narrates that Hadrat Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be well pleased with him) used to relate that a man came to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and submitted: I saw last night a piece of cloud from which ghee and honey were dripping; I saw people spreading their hands — some took much and some took little — and I saw a rope hanging from heaven to earth. Then I saw, O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), that you caught hold of it and ascended, then another man caught hold of it and ascended, then another caught hold of it and ascended, then another caught hold of it but it broke, then it was joined and he ascended. Hadrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be well pleased with him) submitted: May my parents be sacrificed for you! Permit me to interpret it. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: Interpret it. He submitted: The piece of cloud is the canopy of Islam; the ghee and honey dripping from it are the Quran — its softness and sweetness; those who took much or little are those who learn much or little of the Quran; the rope hanging from heaven to earth is the Truth upon which you stand — you hold it and Allah raises you, then after you another man will hold it and rise, then another will hold it and rise, then another will hold it and it will break, then it will be joined and he will rise. O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), tell me — am I right or wrong? He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: You are partly right and partly wrong. He submitted: O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), I adjure you, tell me wherein I erred. The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: Do not adjure.

حضرت ابن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما فرماتے ہیں کہ حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان فرماتے تھے کہ ایک شخص رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور عرض کیا: میں نے رات بادل کا ایک ٹکڑا دیکھا جس سے گھی اور شہد ٹپک رہا تھا، لوگ اپنے ہاتھ پھیلائے اسے لے رہے تھے — کسی نے زیادہ لیا کسی نے کم، اور میں نے دیکھا کہ ایک رسی آسمان سے زمین تک لٹکی ہوئی ہے۔ پھر میں نے دیکھا یا رسول اللہ! کہ آپ نے اسے پکڑا اور اوپر چلے گئے، پھر ایک اور شخص نے پکڑا اور وہ بھی اوپر چلا گیا، پھر ایک اور نے پکڑا اور وہ بھی اوپر چلا گیا، پھر ایک اور نے پکڑا تو وہ ٹوٹ گئی، پھر جوڑی گئی اور وہ بھی اوپر چلا گیا۔ حضرت ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے عرض کیا: میرے ماں باپ آپ پر قربان! مجھے اس کی تعبیر بیان کرنے دیجیے۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: بیان کرو۔ عرض کیا: بادل کا ٹکڑا اسلام کی سایہ بانی ہے، ٹپکنے والا گھی اور شہد قرآن کی نرمی اور حلاوت ہے، کم اور زیادہ لینے والے قرآن کم یا زیادہ حاصل کرنے والے ہیں، آسمان سے زمین تک پہنچی ہوئی رسی وہ حق ہے جس پر آپ قائم ہیں — آپ اسے پکڑتے ہیں تو اللہ آپ کو بلند فرمائے گا، پھر آپ کے بعد ایک اور شخص اسے پکڑے گا اور بلند ہو گا، پھر ایک اور پکڑے گا اور بلند ہو گا، پھر ایک اور پکڑے گا تو وہ ٹوٹ جائے گی پھر جوڑی جائے گی اور وہ بھی بلند ہو گا۔ یا رسول اللہ! آپ مجھے بتائیے کہ میں نے صحیح کہا یا غلط؟ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: کچھ صحیح کہا اور کچھ غلط۔ عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! میں آپ کو قسم دلاتا ہوں، بتائیے کہ میں نے کیا غلطی کی؟ حضور نبیِ اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: قسم نہ دلاؤ۔
