English Translation
'Amr ibn Salamah narrated that his father and some of his people came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) when the people had accepted Islam. They learned Qur'an and fulfilled their needs, then asked the Prophet (peace be upon him): "Who should pray for us?" or "Who should lead us in prayer?" He said: "The one among you who has collected or gathered the most Qur'an should lead you." They returned to their people and asked, and found no one who had gathered more than what I had gathered, though I was a boy wearing a cloak. They put me forward, and I prayed for them. He said: "I remained the imam of the Jarm tribe until this day of mine." He used to lead them in their mosque and pray over their funerals.
