Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:6353 حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْحَرَّانِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثنا زُهَيْرٌ ثنا عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ جَاءَ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْحَيِّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَمِعُوهُ يَقُولُ «لِيَؤُمَّكُمْ أَكْثَرُكُمْ قُرْآنًا» فَقَدَّمُونِي بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَنَا غُلَامٌ فَكُنْتُ أَؤُمُّهُمْ فِي بُرْدَةٍ مَوْصُولَةٍ فَكَانَ فِيهَا فَتْقٌ فَكُنْتُ إِذَا سَجَدْتُ خَرَجَتِ اسْتِي فَقَالُوا لِأَبِي أَلَا تُغَطِّي عَنَّا اسْتَهُ؟ وَكُنْتُ أُرَغِّبُهُمْ فِي تَعْلِيمِ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ فَلَمْ يَزَلْ إِمَامَ قَوْمِهِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَعَلَى جَنَائِزِهِمْ
English Translation
'Amr ibn Salamah said: "Some men from our clan came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and heard him say: 'Let the one who has the most Qur'an lead you in prayer.' So they put me forward even though I was a boy, and I used to lead them in prayer wearing a patched cloak that had a tear in it, so when I prostrated my backside would show. They said to my father: 'Won't you cover his backside from us?' And I used to encourage them to learn the Qur'an." Zuhayr said: "He remained the imam of his people in prayer and over their funerals."
