English Translation
Narrated Umm al-Mu'minin A'ishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was very fond of sweets and honey, and (it was his blessed habit that) when he (peace be upon him) had prayed the Asr prayer, he would come to his pure wives and go near each one. One day he came to Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) and stayed there longer than on other days. When I inquired about the reason, I learned that a woman of her people had sent her a small vessel of honey as a gift, and she had given the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) a drink of honey. So I said: By Allah, we will devise a plan against her. I mentioned it to Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) and said to her: When the Prophet (peace be upon him) comes to you and goes near you, say: O Messenger of Allah! Have you eaten maghafir? He (peace be upon him) will say: No. Then say to him (peace be upon him): Then what is this odor? — for it was the habit of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that he greatly disliked any odor emanating from him. Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) will say to you: Hafsah gave me honey to drink. Then say to him (peace be upon him): Perhaps its bee sucked nectar from the urfut tree (urfut is the name of that very tree whose gum is maghafir). And I will say the same to him, and you too, O Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), say the same to him (peace be upon him). Then when he (peace be upon him) came to Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her), Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: By Allah, besides whom there is no deity, I was about to call out the very thing to the Prophet (peace be upon him) that you (O A'ishah) had told me, while the Prophet (peace be upon him) was still at the door — and my haste to say it was out of fear of you. Then when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) drew near, she said: Have you (peace be upon him) eaten maghafir? He (peace be upon him) said: No. Then she said: Then whose odor is this? He (peace be upon him) said: Hafsah gave me a drink of honey. Then she said: The bee has sucked the nectar of the urfut (so its smell has come into the honey). Then when he came to me, I (A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her) also said the same to him (peace be upon him), then he went to Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her), and she too said the same. Then when he went again to Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: O Messenger of Allah! Shall I bring you some of that honey? He (peace be upon him) said: I have no need of it. Umm al-Mu'minin A'ishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: Sawdah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Glory be to Allah! We have stopped the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) from drinking honey. A'ishah al-Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I said to her: Be quiet. ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہرسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو شیرینی اور شہد بہت پسند تھا اور (آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی عادت مبارکہ تھی کہ) جب آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنماز عصر پڑھ چکتے تو اپنی ازواج مطہرات کے پاس آتے اور ہر ایک سے قریب ہوتے۔ پس ایک دن حفصہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے پاس آئے اور وہاں اور دنوں سے زیادہ ٹھہرے تو میرے اس کا سبب دریافت کرنے پر معلوم ہوا کہ ان کی قوم کی ایک عورت کے پاس سے ان کے پاس شہد کی ایک کپی ہدیہ میں آئی تھی، اور انہوں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو شہد کا شربت پلایا ہے۔ پس میں نے کہا کہ اللہ کی قسم ہم ان سے ایک تدبیر کریں گی۔ میں نے سودہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے ذکر کیا اور ان سے کہا کہ جب نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمتمہارے پاس آئیں اور تم سے قریب ہوں تو تم کہنا کہ یا رسول اللہ! کیا آپ نے مغافیر کھایا ہے؟ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکہیں گے نہیں، تو تم آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے کہنا کہ پھر یہ بدبو کیسی ہے؟ اور رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی عادت تھی کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو اس بات سے بہت نفرت تھی کہ آپ سے بدبو آئے پھر نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمتم سے کہیں گے کہ مجھے حفصہ نے شہد پلایا ہے، تب تم آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے کہنا کہ شاید اس کی مکھی نے عرفط کے درخت سے رس چوس لیا ہے (عرفط اسی درخت کا نام ہے جس کی گوند مغافیر ہے)۔ اور میں بھی ان سے ایسا ہی کہوں گی اور اے صفیہ (رضی اللہ عنہا) تم بھی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے ایسا ہی کہنا۔ پھر جب آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسودہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے پاس آئے تو سودہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ قسم ہے جس اللہ کی کہ اس کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، میں قریب تھی کہ نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے باہر نکل کر وہی بات کہوں جو تم نے (اے عائشہ) مجھ سے کہی تھی اور نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمدروازے پر تھے اور میرا کہنے میں اس طرح جلدی کرنا تمہارے ڈر سے تھا، پھر جب رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنزدیک ہوئے تو انہوں نے کہا کہ کیا آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے مغافیر کھایا ہے؟ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا نہیں پھر انہوں نے کہا کہ یہ بدبو کس کی ہے؟ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ مجھے حفصہ نے شہد کا شربت پلایا ہے۔ تب انہوں نے کہا کہ مکھی نے عرفط کا رس چوس لیا ہے (اس لئے اس کی بو شہد میں آ گئی ہے) پھر جب میرے پاس آئے تو میں (عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا) نے بھی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے یہی کہا پھر صفیہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے پاس گئے اور انہوں نے بھی ایسا ہی کہا، تو جب دوبارہ حفصہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے پاس گئے تو انہوں نے عرض کیا کہ یا رسول اللہ! میں اس میں سے آپ کے لئے شہد لاؤں، تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ مجھے اس کی کوئی ضرورت نہیں ہے۔ ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ سودہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہا کہ سبحان اللہ! ہم نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکو شہد پینے سے روک دیا، تو عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ میں نے ان سے کہا کہ چپ رہو۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 854]
