Arabic (Original)
وَرَوَاهُ ابْنُ مَاجَهْ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنهُ
English Translation
Sahl ibn Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said on the day of Khaybar: "Tomorrow I shall give the banner to a man through whose hands Allah will grant victory. He loves Allah and His Messenger, and Allah and His Messenger love him." The people spent the night wondering which of them would be given it. In the morning they went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), each hoping to receive it. He said: "Where is 'Ali ibn Abi Talib?" They said: "He is complaining of pain in his eyes." He said: "Send for him." He was brought, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) applied his saliva to his eyes and supplicated for him. He was cured as if he had never had any ailment. He gave him the banner and said: "Proceed gently until you reach their territory, then invite them to Islam and inform them of what is incumbent upon them of the rights of Allah. By Allah, if Allah guides even one man through you, it is better for you than red camels." Agreed upon.
