حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ الْمُبَارَكِ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ قَالَ كَأَنَّهُ يَعْنِي النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ الْإِزَارُ إِلَى نِصْفِ السَّاقِ فَشَقَّ عَلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ أَوْ إِلَى الْكَعْبَيْنِ وَلَا خَيْرَ فِي أَسْفَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ.
English Translation
Ali ibn Ishaq told us: Abd Allah, that is Ibn al-Mubarak, informed us: Humayd told us, from Anas, he said: It was as if he - meaning the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him - said: "The lower garment reaches to the middle of the shin." This was hard upon them, so he said: "Or to the ankles, and there is no good in anything lower than that."
