حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأَى فِي الْمَسْجِدِ حَبْلًا مَمْدُودًا بَيْنَ سَارِيَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا الْحَبْلُ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لِحَمْنَةَ بِنْتِ جَحْشٍ تُصَلِّي فَإِذَا أَعْيَتْ تَعَلَّقَتْ بِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِتُصَلِّ مَا أَطَاقَتْ فَإِذَا أَعْيَتْ فَلْتَجْلِسْ حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمِثْلِهِ.
English Translation
Affan told us: Hammad told us: Thabit informed us, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saw a rope stretched between two pillars in the mosque, and said: "What is this rope?" It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, it belongs to Hamna bint Jahsh; she prays, and when she becomes tired she holds onto it." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Let her pray as long as she is able, and when she becomes tired, let her sit." Affan told us: Hammad told us, from Humayd, from Anas ibn Malik, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, similarly.
