It is narrated from Hammam ibn al-Harith: A man began praising Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) knelt down on his knees—and he was a stout man—and began throwing pebbles into the face of the one praising. Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Miqdad! What has come over you?" He said, "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has said, 'When you see those who praise, throw dust in their faces.'"
الترجمة الأردية
ہمام بن حارث سے روایت ہے کہایک شخص سیدنا عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کی تعریف کرنے لگا۔ سیدنا مقداد رضی اللہ عنہ اپنے گھٹنوں کے بل بیٹھے، اور وہ ایک موٹے آدمی تھے اور تعریف کرنے والے کے منہ میں کنکریاں ڈالنے لگے۔ سیدنا عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ اے مقداد! تمہیں کیا ہوا؟ وہ بولے کہ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا ہے کہ جب تم تعریف کرنے والوں کو دیکھو تو ان کے منہ میں خاک ڈال دو۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1509]
