Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates from the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he (peace be upon him) said: "If a man's belly is filled with pus until it reaches his lungs, that is better for him than that he should fill his belly with poetry." (That is, becoming so absorbed in poetry that one becomes heedless of the Qur'an, hadith, and the religious sciences.)
الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا سعد بن ابی وقاص رضی اللہ عنہ نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے روایت کرتے ہیں کہآپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: اگر کسی مرد کا پیٹ پیپ سے بھرے، یہاں تک کہ اس کے پھیپھڑے تک پہنچے تو یہ اس کے حق میں شعروں سے اپنا پیٹ بھرنے سے بہتر ہے۔ (یعنی اشعار میں اتنا مصروف ہو جانا کہ قرآن و حدیث و علوم دینیہ سے غافل ہو جائے)۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 1508]
