Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, Ma'mar informed us, from Qatadah, from Shahr ibn Hawshab, from Asma' bint Yazid al-Ansariyyah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was in my house and he mentioned the Dajjal. He said: "Before him there will be three years: a year in which the sky withholds one-third of its rain and the earth one-third of its produce; a second year in which the sky withholds two-thirds of its rain and the earth two-thirds of its produce; and a third year in which the sky withholds all of its rain and the earth all of its produce, so that no animal with teeth or hooves will remain alive except that it will perish. The most severe of his trials will be that he will come to a Bedouin and say: 'What if I bring back your camels to life? Do you not know that I am your Lord?' He will say: 'Yes.' So the devils will take the forms of his camels, with the finest udders and largest humps. He will come to a man whose brother and father have died and say: 'What if I bring your father and brother back to life? Do you not know that I am your Lord?' He will say: 'Yes.' So the devils will take the forms of his father and brother." She said: Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out for a need and returned. She said: The people were in worry and grief from what he had told them. He took hold of the two sides of the door and said: "What is it, Asma'?" She said: I said, "O Messenger of Allah, you have terrified our hearts by mentioning the Dajjal." He said: "If he emerges while I am alive, then I will be his opponent. Otherwise, my Lord is the protector of every believer." Asma' said: "O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, we knead our dough and do not bake it before we are hungry. How will the believers manage on that day?" He said: "What will suffice them is what suffices the people of heaven - glorification and sanctification." Hashim narrated to us, Abd al-Hamid narrated to us, Shahr narrated to us. He said: And Asma' bint Yazid narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) once sat in a gathering and told them about the one-eyed Dajjal - and he mentioned something similar, adding: He said "mahyam" - and that was the word of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) when he asked about something; he would say "mahyam." And he added: "Whoever is present in my gathering and hears my words, let those present convey to those absent. And know that Allah the Almighty is sound and not one-eyed, and the Dajjal is one-eyed with a wiped-out eye. Between his eyes is written 'kafir' (disbeliever), which every believer can read, whether literate or illiterate."
