حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ قَالَ قُلْنَا لِخَبَّابٍ هَلْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَقُلْنَا بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ كُنْتُمْ تَعْرِفُونَ ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَقَالَ بِاضْطِرَابِ لِحْيَتِهِ.

Abu Mu'awiyah told us, he said: al-A'mash told us, from Umarah ibn Umayr, from Abu Ma'mar, he said: We said to Khabbab: "Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recite in the Dhuhr and Asr prayers?" He said: "Yes." We said: "By what did you recognize that?" He said: "By the movement of his beard."
