Narrated Abu Ayyash Az-Zuraqi (may Allah be pleased with him): We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) at Usfan when the polytheists confronted us, led by Khalid bin Al-Walid, and they were between us and the Qiblah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led us in the Zuhr prayer, and the polytheists said: 'They were in a vulnerable state; had we seized the opportunity!' Then they said: 'A prayer is coming upon them that is dearer to them than their own children and lives.' So Jibril (peace be upon him) revealed this verse between Zuhr and Asr: 'And when you are among them and lead them in prayer' [An-Nisa: 102]. When the time for prayer came, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) -- as Ibn Yahya said -- commanded them to take up their weapons. They formed two rows behind him. Then he bowed and they all bowed. Then he raised his head and they all raised their heads. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prostrated with the row nearest to him, while the others remained standing, guarding them. When they had prostrated and stood up, the others sat and prostrated in their place. Then the first row moved to the position of the second and the second to the position of the first. Then he bowed and they all bowed. Then he raised his head and they all raised their heads. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prostrated with the row nearest to him while the others stood guarding them. When they sat, the others sat and prostrated. Then he gave the Salam and departed. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed this way twice: once at Usfan and once in the land of Banu Sulaim. Ata' and Abu Az-Zubair narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in a similar manner.

سیدنا ابوعیاش زرقی رضی اللہ عنہ بیان کرتے ہیں کہ مقام عسفان پر ہم نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ہمراہ مشرکین کے مدمقابل تھے، ان کے سپہ سالار سیدنا خالد بن ولید رضی اللہ عنہ (جو ابھی مسلمان نہیں ہوئے تھے) تھے، وہ ہمارے اور قبلہ کے درمیان تھے، نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ہمیں ظہر کی نماز پڑھائی، تو مشرکین کہنے لگے: یہ (مسلمان) ایسی حالت میں تھے کہ ہم ان کی غفلت سے فائدہ اٹھا سکتے تھے، پھر کہنے لگے: ابھی ان پر ایک نماز آنے والی ہے، جو انہیں اپنی جانوں اور بیٹوں سے بھی زیادہ محبوب ہے۔ جبریل علیہ السلام نماز ظہر اور عصر کے درمیان یہ آیت لے کر اترے:«فَإِذَا كُنْتَ فِيهِمْ فَأَقَمْتَ لَهُمُ الصَّلَاةَ»(جب آپ ان میں موجود ہوں اور انہیں نماز پڑھائیں....... الخ) راوی کہتے ہیں: نماز کا وقت ہوا، تو نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے حکم سے انہوں نے اسلحہ اٹھا لیا، پھر ہم نے آپ کے پیچھے دو صفیں بنائیں، آپ نے رکوع کیا، تو ہم سب نے بھی رکوع کیا، آپ رکوع سے اٹھے، تو ہم بھی اٹھ گئے، پھر نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ پہلی صف والوں نے سجدہ کیا اور دوسری صف والے کھڑے ہو کر ان کی حفاظت کرتے رہے، جب وہ سجدہ کر کے کھڑے ہو گئے، تو دوسری صف والوں نے ان کی جگہ بیٹھ کر سجدہ کیا، پھر پچھلی صف والے آ گے اور اگلی صف والے پیچھے چلے گئے، پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ سب نے رکوع کیا اور رکوع سے سر اٹھایا، پھر نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ پہلی صف والوں نے سجدہ کیا اور دوسری صف والے کھڑے ہو کر ان کی حفاظت کرنے لگے، جب وہ سجدہ کر کے بیٹھ گئے، تو دوسری صف والوں نے بھی سجدہ کیا، پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے سلام پھیر دیا اور چلے گئے۔ نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے دو دفعہ اس طرح نماز (خوف) پڑھی ہے، ایک دفعہ عسفان میں اور دوسری دفعہ بنی سلیم کے علاقے میں۔ عطاء اورابو زبیر رضی اللہ عنہما نے بھی سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی یہ نماز بیان کی ہے۔[المنتقى ابن الجارود/كتاب الصلاة/حدیث: 232]
