Hadrat Uthman bin Mawhab states, 'A man who came for Hajj saw some people sitting and asked: Who are these seated people? They said: These are the Quraysh. He asked: Who is the elderly one? They said: Hadrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be well pleased with them both). He went to him and asked: I wish to ask you something. Did Hadrat Uthman (may Allah be well pleased with him) flee on the day of Uhud? He replied: Yes. He asked: Was he absent from Badr? He replied: Yes. He asked: Was he absent from the Pledge of Ridwan? He replied: Yes. The man exclaimed Allahu Akbar! Hadrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be well pleased with them both) said: Come, let me explain to you. His fleeing on the day of Uhud — Allah forgave him. His absence from Badr — the daughter of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was in his marriage and she was ill. The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: You shall have the share and reward of one who participated in Badr. His absence from the Pledge of Ridwan — if there had been anyone more honored in Makkah than Hadrat Uthman, the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) would have sent that person instead. The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) placed his right hand and declared: This is the hand of Hadrat Uthman. Now go and take all this with you.'

حضرت عثمان بن موہب فرماتے ہیں: ایک شخص نے حج کے لیے آ کر کچھ لوگوں کو بیٹھے دیکھا اور پوچھا: یہ بیٹھے ہوئے کون ہیں؟ لوگوں نے بتایا: یہ قریش ہیں۔ پوچھا: یہ بوڑھے کون ہیں؟ بتایا: حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما ہیں۔ وہ شخص ان کے پاس گیا اور عرض کیا: میں آپ سے ایک بات پوچھنا چاہتا ہوں۔ پوچھا: کیا حضرت عثمان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ احد کے دن بھاگ گئے تھے؟ فرمایا: ہاں۔ پوچھا: کیا وہ بدر سے غائب رہے؟ فرمایا: ہاں۔ پوچھا: کیا وہ بیعت رضوان میں غائب تھے؟ فرمایا: ہاں۔ وہ شخص اللہ اکبر کہنے لگا۔ حضرت ابن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما نے فرمایا: آؤ میں تمہیں بتاتا ہوں۔ احد سے ان کا بھاگنا — اللہ نے انہیں معاف فرما دیا۔ بدر سے غائب رہنا — ان کے نکاح میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی صاحبزادی تھیں اور وہ بیمار تھیں، آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے فرمایا: تمہیں بدر میں شرکت کرنے والوں جیسا حصہ اور اجر ملے گا۔ بیعت رضوان سے غائب رہنا — اگر مکہ میں حضرت عثمان سے زیادہ عزیز کوئی شخص ہوتا تو آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم انہیں بھیجتے۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اپنا دایاں ہاتھ رکھ کر فرمایا: یہ حضرت عثمان کا ہاتھ ہے۔ اب جاؤ اور یہ سب اپنے ساتھ لے جاؤ۔
