محمد بن المُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنا يحيى بن حماد حَدَّثَنا أبو عوانة عن سليمان يعني الأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قال إن أثقل الصلاة على المنافين صلاة العشاء وصلاة الفجر ولو يعملون ما فيهما لأتوهما ولو حبوا ولو علم أحدكم إذا أتاها أن يجد عرقا من شاة سمينة أو مرماتين حسنتين لأتيتموها أجمعون ولقد هممت أن آمر بالصلاة فتقام وآمر رجلا يصلي بالقوم ثم آمر بحزم الحطب فأحرق على رجال لم يشهدوا اليوم الصلاة اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قال إن أثقل الصلاة على المنافين صلاة العشاء وصلاة الفجر ولو يعملون ما فيهما لأتوهما ولو حبوا ولو علم أحدكم إذا أتاها أن يجد عرقا من شاة سمينة أو مرماتين حسنتين لأتيتموها أجمعون ولقد هممت أن آمر بالصلاة فتقام وآمر رجلا يصلي بالقوم ثم آمر بحزم الحطب فأحرق على رجال لم يشهدوا اليوم الصلاة

Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, Yahya ibn Hammad narrated to us, Abu Awanah narrated to us, from Sulaiman — meaning al-A'mash — from Abu Salih, from Hadrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be well pleased with him), from the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) who stated: «The heaviest prayers upon the hypocrites are the Isha prayer and the Fajr prayer. If they knew what is in them, they would come to them even crawling. If one of you knew that when he came he would find a meaty bone from a fat sheep or two good targets for archery, you would all come. I was about to order the prayer to be established, then command a man to lead the people in prayer, then order bundles of firewood and burn down the houses of men who do not attend the prayer.»
