Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had sent me to Yemen. I met him in the year he performed Hajj. The Messenger of Allah said to me: O Abu Musa, how did you declare your ihram? I said: A talbiyah like the talbiyah of the Prophet (peace be upon him). He said: Did you bring a sacrificial animal? I said: No. He said: Then go and perform tawaf around the House and between al-Safa and al-Marwah, then release your ihram. So I went, performed tawaf around the House and between al-Safa and al-Marwah, then went to a woman from the family of Qays - his paternal aunts - and they washed and combed my hair. Later, during the caliphate of Umar, I came as a pilgrim. While I was telling people at the House what the Messenger of Allah had commanded me, a man arrived and said: Hold back your narration, O man, for you do not know what the Commander of the Faithful has introduced regarding the pilgrimage rites. I said: O people, whoever has heard something, let him not act on it until the Commander of the Faithful arrives, and follow his guidance. When Umar arrived, I said to him: O Commander of the Faithful, have you introduced something new in the pilgrimage rites? Umar became angry and said: Indeed! If we follow the Book of Allah, then Allah has commanded completing them (Hajj and Umrah). And if we follow the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, our Prophet, he did not release his ihram until the sacrificial animal reached its place.'
