Jabir ibn Abdullah said: 'We, the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), entered ihram for Hajj exclusively, nothing else.' Ata said: Jabir said: 'The Prophet (peace be upon him) arrived in Makkah on the morning of the fourth of Dhul-Hijjah. When we arrived, the Prophet ordered us saying: Release your ihram and be with your wives.' Ata said: He did not oblige them to be with their wives, but he made it permissible for them. Then it reached him that we were saying: When there are only five days between us and Arafah, he orders us to release our ihram and go to our wives, and we come to Arafah with semen dripping. Jabir gestured with his hand. The Prophet stood and said: Do you know that I am the most God-fearing among you, the most truthful and the most righteous? Were it not for the sacrificial animal, I would have released my ihram as you do. If I could go back on my decision, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal. So we released our ihram and listened and obeyed. Jabir said: Ali ibn Abi Talib came from his governorship, and the Prophet said to him: With what did you enter ihram, O Ali? He said: With what the Prophet entered ihram. He said: Then offer a sacrifice and remain in ihram as you are. So Ali offered a sacrifice for him. Suraqah ibn Malik said: Is this Mut'ah of ours for this year or forever? He said: No, rather it is forever. Both (al-Bukhari and Muslim) reported it in the Sahih from the hadith of Ibn Jurayj.
