Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah was asked about the hadith narrated by the Prophet (peace be upon him) from his Lord: 'Every deed of the son of Adam is for him except fasting — it is for Me and I shall reward for it.' Ibn 'Uyaynah said: 'This is one of the finest and most precise hadiths. On the Day of Resurrection, Allah the Almighty will hold His servant to account and will settle the injustices owed against him from his other deeds, until nothing remains except fasting. Then Allah will bear the remaining injustices on his behalf and admit him to Paradise through fasting.'
