أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْقَاضِي ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَجَّاجِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ كَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَعَلَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَيُسَلِّمُ حَتَّى انْجَلَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُنَاسًا مِنَ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ كَانُوا يَقُولُونَ إِذَا كَسَفَ وَاحِدٌ مِنْهُمَا إِنَّمَا يَنْكَسِفُ لِمَوْتِ عَظِيمٍ مِنْ عُظَمَاءِ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ وَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَيْسَ كَذَلِكَ وَلَكِنَّهُمَا خَلْقَانِ مِنْ خَلْقِ اللهِ فَإِذَا تَجَلَّى اللهُ لِشَيْءٍ مِنْ خَلْقِهِ خَشَعَ لَهُ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ ذَلِكَ فَصَلُّوا وَرَوَاهُ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ فِيهِ فَجَعَلَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَسَأَلَ عَنْهَا حَتَّى انْجَلَتْ وَرَوَاهُ الْحَسَنُ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ خَالِيًا عَنْ هَذِهِ الْأَلْفَاظِ الَّتِي تُوهِمُ خِلَافًا وَخَالِيًا عَنْ لَفْظِ التَّجَلِّي

Abu al-Hasan Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Abdan narrated to us... from a man from al-Nu'man ibn Bashir who said: The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). He kept praying two units and giving salutations until the sun cleared. Then he said: 'People of the pre-Islamic era used to say when one of them eclipsed that it only eclipses for the death of a great person among the great ones of the earth. That is not so, but they are two creations from the creation of Allah. When Allah manifests Himself to anything of His creation, it humbles itself before Him. When you see that, pray.' Al-Harith ibn Umayr al-Basri narrated it from Ayyub from Abu Qilabah from al-Nu'man ibn Bashir, saying: 'He kept praying two units and asking about it until it cleared.' Al-Hasan narrated it from al-Nu'man ibn Bashir without these expressions that suggest contradiction and without the wording of 'manifestation.'
