Ahmad ibn Ali al-Asbahani informed us: Ibrahim ibn Abdullah narrated to us: Isma'il ibn Ibrahim al-Qattan narrated to us: al-Hasan ibn Isa narrated to us: Ibn al-Mubarak informed us: Sufyan narrated from al-A'mash from Ibrahim that Zayd ibn Thabit used to share the grandfather with siblings up to a third. Once it reached a third, he gave him the third and the siblings received the remainder. He did not give inheritance to maternal siblings alongside the grandfather, and he counted paternal half-siblings alongside full siblings for the grandfather's share but did not give the half-siblings any share. With one full brother and a grandfather, each received half. With two brothers and a grandfather, the grandfather received a third. With more, the grandfather still received a third. With one sister and a grandfather, she received a third and the grandfather two-thirds. With two sisters and a grandfather, they received half and the grandfather half, until they reached five, at which point the grandfather received a third. He gave each person with a fixed share their share. In the Akdariyyah case (husband, mother, sister, and grandfather), he made it from nine, then multiplied by three to make twenty-seven: the husband received nine shares, the mother six, the grandfather eight, and the sister four.
