Surayj ibn al-Nu'man told us: Ibn Abi al-Zinad told us, from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Harith, from Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, looked at a Bedouin standing in the sun while he was delivering a sermon, and said, "What is the matter with you?" He said, "I vowed, O Messenger of Allah, not to leave the sun until you finish." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "This is not a [valid] vow; a vow is only that by which the Face of Allah, Mighty and Sublime, is sought."
