Yunus narrated to us: Layth narrated to us, from Yazid - meaning Ibn al-Had - from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, that Qatadah ibn al-Nu'man al-Zafari had spoken ill of Quraysh, seeming to disparage them, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "O Qatadah, do not curse Quraysh, for perhaps you will see men among them whose deeds you look down upon compared to your own deeds, and whose actions you look down upon compared to your own actions, yet you will envy them when you see them - were it not that Quraysh might become insolent, I would have told them what awaits them with Allah, Mighty and Majestic." Yazid said: Ja'far ibn Abdullah ibn Aslam heard me narrating this report, and he said, "That is how Asim ibn Umar ibn Qatadah narrated it to me, from his father, from his grandfather."
