حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَقَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ فَحَدَّثَ عَنْ ابْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُصَلِّيهِمَا فَأَرْسَلَ مُعَاوِيَةُ إِلَى عَائِشَةَ وَأَنَا فِيهِمْ فَسَأَلْنَاهَا فَقَالَتْ لَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ مِنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَكِنْ حَدَّثَتْنِي أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ فَسَأَلْتُهَا فَحَدَّثَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ أُتِيَ بِشَيْءٍ فَجَعَلَ يَقْسِمُهُ حَتَّى حَضَرَتْ صَلَاةُ الْعَصْرِ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى الْعَصْرَ ثُمَّ صَلَّى بَعْدَهَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَلَمَّا صَلَّاهَا قَالَ هَاتَانِ الرَّكْعَتَانِ كُنْتُ أُصَلِّيهِمَا بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ فَقَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ وَلَقَدْ حَدَّثْتُهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْهُمَا قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِذَلِكَ فَقَالَ ابْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ صَلَّاهُمَا لَا أَزَالُ أُصَلِّيهِمَا فَقَالَ لَهُ مُعَاوِيَةُ إِنَّكَ لَمُخَالِفٌ لَا تَزَالُ تُحِبُّ الْخِلَافَ مَا بَقِيتَ.

Narrated to us by Muhammad ibn Ja'far, who said: Shu'bah narrated to us, from Yazid ibn Abi Ziyad, who said: "I asked Abdullah ibn al-Harith about the two rak'ahs after 'Asr, and he said: 'We were with Mu'awiyah, and he related from Ibn al-Zubayr, from A'ishah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray them. So Mu'awiyah sent to A'ishah - and I was among them - and we asked her, and she said: "I did not hear it from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), but Umm Salamah told me, so I asked her." Umm Salamah related that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed Zuhr, then something was brought to him and he set about distributing it until the time for 'Asr prayer arrived, so he got up and prayed 'Asr, then prayed two rak'ahs after it. When he had prayed them, he said, "These two rak'ahs I used to pray after Zuhr." Umm Salamah said: "And I had indeed told her that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had forbidden them."' He said: 'So I went to Mu'awiyah and informed him of that. He said: "Ibn al-Zubayr said, 'Did he not pray them? I will never stop praying them.'"' So Mu'awiyah said to him: 'You are indeed contrary - you never stop loving to be contrarian as long as you live.'"
