قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ : مَالِكٌ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَعْضِ أَسْفَارِنَا حَتَّى إِذَا كُنَّا بِالْبَيْدَاءِ أَوْ بِذَاتِ الْجَيْشِ انْقَطَعَ عِقْدٌ لِي فَأَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْتِمَاسِهِ وَأَقَامَ النَّاسُ مَعَهُ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَأَتَى النَّاسُ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ فَقَالُوا أَلَا تَرَى مَا صَنَعَتْ عَائِشَةُ أَقَامَتْ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَبِالنَّاسِ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ فَجَاءَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاضِعٌ رَأْسَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِي فَقَالَ حَبَسْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالنَّاسَ وَلَيْسُوا عَلَى مَاءٍ وَلَيْسَ مَعَهُمْ مَاءٌ قَالَتْ فَعَاتَبَنِي أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَقَالَ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَقُولَ وَجَعَلَ يَطْعَنُ بِيَدِهِ فِي خَاصِرَتِي وَلَا يَمْنَعُنِي مِنْ التَّحَرُّكِ إِلَّا مَكَانُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى فَخِذِي فَنَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى أَصْبَحَ النَّاسُ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَاءٍ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ آيَةَ التَّيَمُّمِ فَتَيَمَّمُوا فَقَالَ أُسَيْدُ بْنُ الْحَضِيرِ مَا هِيَ بِأَوَّلِ بَرَكَتِكُمْ يَا آلَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ قَالَتْ فَبَعَثْنَا الْبَعِيرَ الَّذِي كُنْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَوَجَدْنَا الْعِقْدَ تَحْتَهُ.

He said: I read to Abd al-Rahman: Malik, from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Qasim, from his father, from Aisha, the wife of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that she said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, on one of our journeys, until when we were at al-Bayda' or at Dhat al-Jaysh, a necklace of mine broke and was lost. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stopped to search for it, and the people stopped with him, though they were not near water and had no water with them. So the people came to Abu Bakr and said, "Do you not see what Aisha has done? She has held up the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and the people, when they are not near water and have none with them." Then Abu Bakr came while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had his head resting on my thigh, and he said, "You have detained the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and the people, when they are not near water and have none with them!" She said: Abu Bakr rebuked me and said what Allah willed him to say, and began to jab me with his hand in my side, and nothing prevented me from moving except the position of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, with his head on my thigh. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, slept until morning came upon the people with no water. Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed the verse of tayammum, and they performed tayammum. Usayd ibn Hudayr said, "This is not the first blessing you have brought, O family of Abu Bakr." She said: Then we sent forth the camel I had been riding, and we found the necklace beneath it.
