Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Shu'bah told us, from Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn al-Muntashir, from his father, that he asked Ibn Umar about a man perfuming himself at the time of entering ihram. He said, "That I should smear myself with tar would be more beloved to me than to do that." He said: So my father asked Aisha and told her what Ibn Umar had said, and she said, "May Allah have mercy on Abu Abd al-Rahman. I used to perfume the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then he would go around to his wives, then in the morning he would be in the state of ihram, giving off the scent of perfume."
