Yazid ibn Harun narrated to us: Ibn Abi Dhi'b informed us, from Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Ata', from Dhakwan, from A'ishah, who said: "A Jewish woman came and asked for food at my door, saying: 'Feed me, may Allah protect you from the trial of the Dajjal and from the trial of the punishment of the grave.' I kept detaining her until the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came, and I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is this Jewish woman saying?' He said: 'What does she say?' I said: 'She says: May Allah protect you from the trial of the Dajjal and from the trial of the punishment of the grave.'" A'ishah said: "So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood, raised his hands widely, seeking refuge in Allah from the trial of the Dajjal and the trial of the punishment of the grave, then said: 'As for the trial of the Dajjal, there has been no prophet but that he warned his nation of him, and I will warn you of him with a warning no prophet warned his nation with before. He is one-eyed, and Allah, Mighty and Sublime, is not one-eyed; written between his eyes is "Kafir" (disbeliever), which every believer will read. As for the trial of the grave: it is concerning me that you will be tried, and about me that you will be questioned. When the righteous man is questioned, he is seated in his grave without fear or terror, and it is said to him: "What were you upon?" He says: "Islam." It is said: "What was this man who was among you?" He says: "Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him; he came to us with clear signs from Allah, Mighty and Sublime, and we believed him." Then an opening toward the Fire is opened for him, and he looks at it consuming itself, and it is said to him: "Look at what Allah, Mighty and Sublime, has protected you from." Then an opening toward Paradise is opened for him, and he looks at its splendor and what is in it, and it is said to him: "This is your seat from it," and it is said: "Upon certainty you lived, and upon it you died, and upon it you will be resurrected, if Allah wills." But when the evil man is questioned, he is seated in his grave in fear and terror, and it is said to him: "What were you upon?" He says: "I do not know." It is said: "What was this man who was among you?" He says: "I heard the people saying something, so I said as they said." Then an opening toward Paradise is opened for him, and he looks at its splendor and what is in it, and it is said to him: "Look at what Allah, Mighty and Sublime, has turned away from you." Then an opening toward the Fire is opened for him, and he looks at it consuming itself, and it is said to him: "This is your seat from it; upon doubt you lived, and upon it you died, and upon it you will be resurrected, if Allah wills." Then he is punished.' Muhammad ibn Amr said: Sa'id ibn Yasar narrated to me, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said: 'The angels attend the dying person; and when it is the righteous man, they say: "Come out, O good soul that was in a good body! Come out, praised, and be given glad tidings of comfort, fragrance, and a Lord who is not angry." It continues to be said to it until it comes out, then it is taken up to heaven, and it is asked to be opened for, and it is said: "Who is this?" It is said: "So-and-so." It is said: "Welcome to the good soul that was in the good body! Enter, praised, and be given glad tidings of comfort, fragrance, and a Lord who is not angry." It continues to be said to it until it is brought up to the heaven in which Allah, Mighty and Sublime, is. But when it is the evil man, they say: "Come out, O evil soul that was in an evil body! Come out of it, disgraced, and be given news of scalding water and pus, and other torments of its kind, in pairs." It continues to be said to it until it comes out, then it is taken up to heaven, and it is asked to be opened for, and it is said: "Who is this?" It is said: "So-and-so." It is said: "No welcome to the evil soul that was in the evil body! Go back disgraced, for the gates of heaven will not be opened for you." So it is sent back down from heaven, then it goes to the grave, and the righteous man is made to sit and is told the same as in the hadith of A'ishah, exactly.'"
