Qays ibn Habtar said: I asked Ibn Abbas about white, green, and red clay vessels (for nabidh). He said: 'The first to ask the Prophet (peace be upon him) about this was the delegation of Abd al-Qays. They said: We obtain dregs (of dates), so which vessels (should we use)? He said: Do not drink from gourds (dubba), pitch-coated vessels (muzaffat), hollowed-out tree trunks (naqir), or green-glazed jars (hantam). Drink from waterskins. Then he said: Indeed Allah has forbidden me — or He has forbidden — wine, gambling, and the kubah (drum), and every intoxicant is forbidden.' Sufyan said: I asked Ali ibn Badhimah: 'What is the kubah?' He said: 'The drum.'
