حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُنْذِرِ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَنَسٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مَعْمَرٍ عَنْ أَبِي يُونُسَ مَوْلَى عَائِشَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ تُدْرِكُنِي الصَّلَاةُ وَأَنَا جُنُبٌ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَنَا تُدْرِكُنِي الصَّلَاةُ وَأَنَا جُنُبٌ وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ فَأَغْتَسِلُ ثُمَّ أَصُومُ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ إِنَّا لَسْنَا مِثْلَكَ فَقَدْ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ فَغَضِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأَرْجُو أَنْ أَكُونَ أَخْشَاكُمْ لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَأَعْلَمَكُمْ بِمَا أَتَّقِي.

Abu al-Mundhir Isma'il ibn Umar narrated to us, he said: Malik — that is, Ibn Anas — narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Ma'mar, from Abu Yunus, the freed slave of Aishah, from Aishah: that a man asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying, "O Messenger of Allah, the time of prayer comes upon me while I am in a state of major ritual impurity, and I wish to fast." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "And I too — the time of prayer comes upon me while I am in a state of major ritual impurity, and I wish to fast, so I perform ghusl and then fast." The man said, "We are not like you; Allah has forgiven you your past and future sins." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, became angry and said, "By Allah, I hope that I am the most fearing of you of Allah, Mighty and Sublime, and the most knowledgeable of you of what I should be wary of."
