حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ عَزْرَةَ عَنْ الْحَسَنِ الْعُرَنِيِّ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ الْجَزَّارِ عَنْ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ فِي هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ { وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُمْ مِنْ الْعَذَابِ الْأَدْنَى دُونَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَكْبَرِ } قَالَ الْمُصِيبَاتُ وَالدُّخَانُ قَدْ مَضَيَا وَالْبَطْشَةُ وَاللِّزَامُ.

Abdullah told us, Ubaydullah ibn Umar al-Qawariri told us, Yahya ibn Sa'id told us, from Shu'ba, from Qatada, from Azra, from al-Hasan al-'Urani, from Yahya ibn al-Jazzar, from Ibn Abi Layla, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b regarding this verse: "And We will surely let them taste the nearer punishment, short of the greater punishment" - he said: it refers to the calamities, and the smoke which has already passed, and the onslaught, and the enduring affliction.
