Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us, Shu'ba told us, he said: I heard Qatada narrate from Mutarrif ibn al-Shikhkhir -- and Hajjaj said: Shu'ba told me -- Hajjaj said in his narration: I heard Mutarrif ibn al-Shikhkhir narrate from Hakim ibn Qays ibn 'Asim, from his father: that he instructed his sons at his death, saying: "Fear Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and give leadership to your eldest, for when a people give leadership to their eldest, they carry on in place of their father" -- and he mentioned the hadith -- "And when I die, do not wail over me, for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was not wailed over."
