Yahya narrated to us, from Hisham, Qatadah narrated to us, from al-Hasan, from Imran ibn Husayn, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said while on one of his journeys, when his companions had spread out in their travel, he raised his voice with these two verses: 'O mankind, fear your Lord. Indeed, the earthquake of the Hour is a tremendous thing. The Day you see it, every nursing mother will be distracted...' until the end of the two verses. When his companions heard that, they urged their mounts forward, knowing he was about to make a statement. When they gathered around him, he said: 'Do you know what day that is? That is the day when Adam will be called and his Lord, Blessed and Exalted, will call him: "O Adam, send forth a contingent to the Fire." He will say: "O Lord, and what is the contingent to the Fire?" He will say: "From every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine to the Fire and one to Paradise."' His companions fell into despair until none of them showed a smile. When he saw that, he said: 'Strive and rejoice! By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, you are with two creations that were never with anything except that they outnumbered it — Gog and Magog, and those who perished from the children of Adam and the children of Iblis.' He said: Their distress was relieved. Then he said: 'Strive and rejoice! By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, you are among mankind only like a mole on the side of a camel, or like a mark on the foreleg of a riding beast.' Rawh narrated to us, Said and Hisham ibn Abi Abdullah narrated to us — and he mentioned the same meaning, except that he said: 'Their anxiety was relieved,' and he said: 'except that they outnumbered it.'
