Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us: Shu'bah told us, from Ziyad ibn Ilaqah, who said: A man of my people told me - Shu'bah said: I used to remember his name - he said: We were at the gate of Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, waiting for permission to enter upon him, and I heard Abu Musa al-Ash'ari say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "The extinction of my community will be by stabbing and plague." We said, "O Messenger of Allah, this stabbing we know, but what is the plague?" He said, "The stabbing of your enemies among the jinn, and in each there is martyrdom." Ziyad said: I was not satisfied with his account, so I asked the chief of the tribe, who was with them, and he said, "He spoke truly; Abu Musa narrated it to us." Yahya ibn Abi Bukayr told us: Abu Bakr al-Nahshali told us: Ziyad ibn Ilaqah told us, from Usamah ibn Sharik, who said: We went out, some dozen or so of Banu Tha'labah, and we came upon Abu Musa, and he was narrating from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, who said, "O Allah, make the extinction of my community by the plague," and he mentioned it.
