Yahya - that is Ibn Sa'id - told us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Ata', from Ubayd b. Umayr, that Abu Musa sought permission to enter upon Umar, may Allah Almighty be pleased with him, three times, but was not given permission, so he went back. Umar said, "Did I not hear the voice of Abdullah b. Qays just now?" They said, "Yes." He said, "Then seek him out." So they sought him and he was summoned, and Umar said, "What made you do what you did?" He said, "I asked permission three times and was not given it, so I went back. We were commanded to do this." Umar said, "You must bring proof of this, or else I will do such-and-such." He said: So he went to a mosque or gathering of the Ansar, and they said, "None will testify for you except the youngest of us." So Abu Sa'id al-Khudri stood up and testified for him. Umar, may Allah Almighty be pleased with him, said, "This matter of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was hidden from me; trading in the markets distracted me from it."
