Muhammad ibn Abi Adi told us, from Humayd, from Bakr, from Hamzah ibn al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah, from his father, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, fell behind and relieved himself, then said, "Do you have water for purification?" He said: I followed him with a small water vessel containing water. He washed his hands and face, then went to bare his forearms, but the sleeves of the cloak were tight, so he brought his hands out from under the cloak and washed his forearms. Then he wiped over his turban and his leather socks, and mounted, and I mounted my riding beast. We reached the people, and Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf had already led them in one rak'ah. When he sensed the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he went to step back, but the Prophet gestured to him to complete the prayer, and said, "You have done well; continue thus."
