Abu Abd al-Rahman told us, Sa'id — meaning Ibn Abi Ayyub — told us, Yazid ibn Abi Habib told me, who said: I heard Abu al-Khayr say: I saw Abu Tamim al-Jayshani, Abd Allah ibn Malik, praying two rak'ahs when he heard the call to the Maghrib prayer. He said: So I came to Uqbah ibn Amir al-Juhani and said to him: Shall I not amaze you about Abu Tamim al-Jayshani — he prays two rak'ahs before the Maghrib prayer! — and I wanted to belittle him for it. Uqbah said: We used to do that in the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. I said: What prevents you from doing it now? He said: Being occupied.
