Ziyad ibn al-Rabi' told us, saying: Abbad ibn Kathir al-Shami, of the people of Palestine, told us, from a woman among them called Fasilah, that she said: I heard my father say: I asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, is it tribalism ('asabiyyah) for a man to love his own people?" He said: "No, but it is tribalism for a man to support his own people in wrongdoing." Abu Abd al-Rahman said: I heard someone among the people of knowledge mention that her father — that is, Fasilah's — was Wathilah ibn al-Asqa', and I saw that my father placed this hadith at the end of the hadiths of Wathilah, so I supposed that he attached it to the hadith of Wathilah.
