Abd al-Samad told us: Harb ibn Thabit, who used to live among Banu Sulaym, told us: Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Talha told us, from his father, from his grandfather, who said: A man recited in the presence of Umar, and he found fault with his recitation. The man said: "I recited to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he did not find fault with me." He said: So we gathered in the presence of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: The man recited to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said to him: "You have done well." He said: It seemed that Umar was troubled by that, so the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O Umar, indeed the whole Qur'an is correct, so long as a verse of punishment is not made into one of forgiveness, or a verse of forgiveness into one of punishment." And Abd al-Samad said another time: "Abu Thabit, from his book."
