Zayd ibn al-Hubab told us: Hammad ibn Zayd told me: al-Mu'alla ibn Ziyad al-Mi'wali told us, from al-Ala' ibn Bashir al-Muzani, from Abu al-Siddiq al-Naji, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "I give you glad tidings of the Mahdi. He will be raised up in my nation at a time of disagreement among the people and of upheavals, and he will fill the earth with fairness and justice just as it was filled with injustice and tyranny. The dweller of the heavens and the dweller of the earth will be pleased with him, and Allah will fill the hearts of the nation of Muhammad with contentment, so that no one will be in need of anyone else. A caller will call out, 'Who has need of wealth?' A man will stand and say, 'I do.' It will be said to him, 'Go to the guardian' - meaning the treasurer - 'and say to him, "The Mahdi commands you to give me [wealth]."' He said: So he will go to the guardian and tell him, and it will be said to him, 'Scoop it up,' and he will scoop it up. When he has secured it, he will say, 'I have been the greediest in spirit of the nation of Muhammad - or did what was sufficient for them fail to reach me?' He said: He will remain seven years, or eight years, or nine years; then there will be no good left in life - or in living - after him." Zayd ibn al-Hubab told us: Ja'far ibn Sulayman told me: al-Mu'alla ibn Ziyad told us, from al-Ala' ibn Bashir al-Muzani - who used to weep much at [Allah's] remembrance and was courageous when meeting [the enemy] - from Abu al-Siddiq al-Naji, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, its like, and he added in it: "then he will regret it and bring it back to the guardian, who will say to him, 'We do not take back anything we have given.'"
