Al-Hasan [al-Basri] said: 'Are you not amazed by this — meaning Malik ibn al-Mundhir? He went to old men from the people of [Kaskar] who had accepted Islam, investigated them, and ordered them circumcised in the winter. I heard that some of them died. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had people accept Islam — Romans and Abyssinians — and none of them were investigated about anything.'
