Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:10155 حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الْقُطَعِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الْأَعْلَى عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ قَرَأَ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا فَقَالَ نَزَلَتْ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لَيْلَةَ الْحَيَّةِ قُلْنَا يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَمَا لَيْلَةُ الْحَيَّةِ؟ قَالَ أَنَا مَعَهُ إِذْ خَرَجَتْ عَلَيْنَا حَيَّة�� فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «اطْلُبُوهَا» فَطَلَبْنَاهَا فَعَجَزَتْنَا حَتَّى دَخَلَتْ جُحْرَهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «دَعُوهَا؛ فَقَدْ وَقَاهَا اللهُ شَرَّكُمْ وَوَقَاكُمْ شَرَّهَا»
English Translation
'Abdullah recited "By those sent forth in gusts" (al-Mursalat) and said: "It was revealed to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on the night of the snake." We said: "O Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, what is the night of the snake?" He said: "I was with him when a snake emerged upon us. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Seek it!' We sought it but it eluded us and entered its hole. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Leave it — Allah has spared it your harm and spared you its harm.'"
