English Translation
'Abdullah said: "O people, you must be truthful, for it brings you close to righteousness, and righteousness brings you close to Paradise. Beware of lying, for it brings you close to wickedness, and wickedness brings you close to the Fire. The truthful one is told: 'He has been truthful and righteous,' and the liar is told: 'He has lied and been wicked.' Indeed, the angel has a prompting and Satan has a prompting. The angel's prompting is an inclination toward good, and Satan's prompting is an inclination toward evil. Whoever finds the angel's prompting, let him praise Allah, and whoever finds Satan's prompting, let him seek refuge (from it), for Allah Most High says: 'Satan threatens you with poverty and orders you...' to the end of the verse (2:268)." He also said: "Allah Most High laughs (approvingly) at two men: a man who rises on a cold night from his bed, his blanket and covers, performs ablution, then stands for prayer. Allah Most High says to His angels: 'What made My servant do this?' They say: 'Our Lord, hope in what is with You and fear of what is with You.' He says: 'I have given him what he hoped and secured him from what he feared.' And a man who was in a military detachment, knowing the consequences of fleeing and knowing his reward with Allah, so he fought until he was killed. Allah says to the angels: 'What made My servant do this?' They say: 'Our Lord, hope in what is with You and fear of what is with You.' He says: 'I call you to witness that I have given him what he hoped and secured him from what he feared.'"
