Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:8531 حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ عَنْ رَبَاحٍ النَّخَعِيِّ قَالَ كَانَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ يَخْطُبُنَا كُلَّ خَمِيسٍ فَيَقُولُ «إِنَّ أَصْدَقَ الْحَدِيثِ كِتَابُ اللهِ وَخَيْرَ الْهَدْيِ هَدْيُ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ وَكُلَّ مُحْدَثَةٍ بِدْعَةٌ وَكُلَّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ وَشَرَّ الْأُمُورِ مُحْدَثَاتُهَا وَإِنَّكُمْ مَجْمُوعُونَ بِصَعِيدٍ وَاحِدٍ يَنْفُذُكُمُ الْبَصَرُ وَيُسْمِعُكُمُ الدَّاعِي أَلَا وَإِنَّ الشَّقِيَّ مَنْ شَقِيَ فِي بَطْنِ أُمِّهِ وَالسَّعِيدُ مَنْ وُعِظَ بِغَيْرِهِ»
English Translation
'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud used to give a sermon every Thursday, saying: "The truest speech is the Book of Allah, the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace be upon him), every innovation is a deviation, every deviation is misguidance, and the worst of affairs are newly-invented ones. You will be gathered on a single plain where all will be seen and the caller will be heard. Indeed, the wretched one is he who was wretched in his mother's womb, and the fortunate one is he who learns from others."
