Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:830 حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ ثنا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ رَاهَوَيْهِ ثنا النَّضْرُ بْنُ شُمَيْلٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَشْعَثُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ نَائِلَةَ الْأَصْبَهَانِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الْمُقَدَّمِيُّ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ عَنْ أَشْعَثَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ قَالَ غَزَوْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَفْضَى بِهِمُ الْقَتْلُ إِلَى أَنْ قَتَلُوا الذُّرِّيَّةَ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا بَالُ أَقْوَامٍ أَفْضَى بِهِمُ الْقَتْلُ إِلَى أَنْ قَتَلُوا الذُّرِّيَّةَ» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَوَلَيْسُوا أَوْلَادَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ؟ فَقَالَ «أَوَلَيْسَ خِيَارُكُمْ أَوْلَادَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ كُلُّ مَوْلُودٍ يُولَدُ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ حَتَّى يَكُونَ أَبَوَاهُ يُهَوِّدَانِهِ وَيُنَصِّرَانِهِ وَيُمَجِّسَانِهِ» وَاللَّفْظُ لِحَدِيثِ الْمُقَدَّمِيِّ
English Translation
Al-Aswad ibn Sari' said: We went on an expedition with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and the killing went so far that they killed children. When this reached the Prophet (peace be upon him), he said: "What is wrong with people that the killing went so far that they killed children?" A man said: "Are they not the children of polytheists?" He said: "Are not the best among you the children of polytheists? Every child is born upon the fitrah until his parents make him a Jew, a Christian, or a Magian."
