Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:8513 حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ مَعْنٍ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ شَامَمْتُ أَصْحَابَ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ فَوَجَدْتُ عِلْمَهُمُ انْتَهَى إِلَى سِتَّةٍ إِلَى عُمَرَ وَعَلِيٍّ وَعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ وَأَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ وَزَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ثُمَّ شَامَمْتُ السِّتَّةَ فَوَجَدْتُ عِلْمَهُمُ انْتَهَى إِلَى عَلِيٍّ وَعَبْدِ اللهِ
English Translation
Masruq said: "I examined the Companions of Muhammad (peace be upon him) and found that their knowledge ended at six: 'Umar, 'Ali, 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, Abu al-Darda', and Zayd ibn Thabit. Then I examined these six and found that their knowledge ended at 'Ali and 'Abdullah."
