Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:8104 حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ ثنا لَيْثُ بْنُ هَارُونَ الْعُكْلِيُّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ ثنا عَبْدَةُ قَالَا ثنا زَيْدٌ ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ عَنْ أَبِي غَالِبٍ عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَعْطَى أَبَا ذَرٍّ قِنًّا فَقَالَ «أَطْعِمْهُ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُ وَاكْسِهِ مِمَّا تَلْبَسُ» وَكَانَ لِأَبِي ذَرٍّ ثَوْبٌ فَشَقَّهُ نِصْفَيْنِ فَائْتَزَرَ نِصْفَهُ وَأَعْطَى الْغُلَامَ نِصْفَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَا لِي أَرَى ثَوْبَكَ هَكَذَا؟» فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قُلْتَ أَطْعِمُوهُمْ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ وَأَلْبِسُوهُمْ مِمَّا تَلْبَسُونَ؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ» قُلْتُ أَعْتِقُهُ؟ قَالَ «آجَرَكَ اللهُ يَا أَبَا ذَرٍّ»
English Translation
The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave Abu Dharr a slave and said: "Feed him from what you eat and clothe him with what you wear." Abu Dharr had one garment, so he tore it in half, wrapping himself in one half and giving the other half to the servant. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to him: "Why do I see your garment like this?" He said: "O Messenger of Allah, you said: 'Feed them from what you eat and clothe them with what you wear.'" He said: "Yes." I said: "Shall I free him?" He said: "May Allah reward you, O Abu Dharr."
