English Translation
Abu Umamah said: When people used to enter the mosque and find others praying, a man would ask the one next to him (how much he had missed) and he would tell him so he could make up what he missed and then join the congregation. Then Mu'adh came one day and they gestured to him that he had missed such-and-such. He refused to pray (the missed part first) and instead joined the prayer, then prayed what he had missed afterward. This was mentioned to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), who said: "Mu'adh did well. You should do as Mu'adh did."
